Used Expedia on a recent trip to Thailand, and had one great experience and one quite poor - so 3 *'s is about right.
They had by far the best price for the hotel we ended up staying at, and it had some great inclusions that other sites didn't offer. Description was accurate and payment was easy, hotel had our booking just as promised.
While in Thailand we booked a tour through Expedia - instant booking and payment. Literally 3 minutes later we were advised by the tour company that the tour wasn't available (and never would have been on that date as the operator wasn't open on that day). I rang Expedia and though they apologised it still took 1 week for my refund to be processed. Given that they never should have let it be booked in the first place and it was their error, I would have expected better.
I have called end of May 2015 Expedia service for updating an Itinerary (initially booked from their website). I requested two changes (date and class change)
The Expedia Operator indicates me that the update will cost me $650 AUD, I provided him with my Credit Card number for finalizing the booking.
We confirmed the cost of the change for a total of $650 AUD and he as well confirmed me that I will receive a mail with the itinerary change (I never received this email confirmation).
On Sunday the 31st May, another operator from Expedia calls my mobile indicating me that an error occurred during the estimation of the price, he indicates me that although I was told that it will cost me $650 AUD, the changes cost in fact $1150 AUD. I indicates him that 1/ I cant accept this cost and 2/ that creates me ...read more
I've found expedia to be very handy for when it comes to looking online for good flight and hotel deals. I've booked many trips during this service and at times, had to call their customer service hotline for assistance with bookings or price matching.
The only downside would be the customer service line, which appears to be out sourced to an overseas call centre. At times the staff a hard to understand and talk to. Once they get you on the line, they try everything to nab your credit card details and lock you into an itinerary.
Other than this, the site is great for looking up deals and trying to get a good package on a holiday. It works well and is easy.
There is no uncertainty Expedia is one of the chief travel booking websites. It includes many advantages that made it the primary pick in any traveler's list. Although basically convenient, the site's buyer service is not as quick to respond seeing that it should be. It decays its reputation as one of the leaders while competing with rivals. I experienced issues for my bookings with purchaser service, and also a few information didn't appear to be suitable because told via the firm agent over the phone.
We have had a fantastic two week trek to Everest base camp. Our Guide and porter. Sanjib and Pemba have been excellent and very attentive looking after us.Sanjib is a very good guide and taught us allot about Nepali culture. Pemba was a brilliant porter. We think he will make an excellent guide in future. The level of service from both Sanjib and Pemba was superb. They were available all the way to help us with anything we needed, and both were thoughtful about anything we might require, water, food showers, accomodation. Sanjib's knowledge of the area and the lodges meant that we were always happy with our accommodation. He took care to visit places which were comfortable and had home stay feel. Sanjib have the qualities to be excellent guide and porter and to give all his clients a wonderful trekking experience. We highly recommend him.
