This is a handly pub for me since it is just a short walk from the railway station, meaning that if the train home turns out to be a little too crowded I can jump off, grab a beer, and then catch another train that hopefully (but not usually) is a little less packed. From the outside it looks like your standard run down pub, however once you step inside it has a nice inner city feel about it. In fact the beer garden out the back is pretty cool. They also have live music most nights of the week (though I was only there late enough once and it turned out to be some guy playing country music, so I ended up making a hasty retreat). Most other times the band room is actually a restaurant and it only transforms later on in the evening. Still, I quite like the place, and find it a reasonably quiet place to sit with a beer and read one of my books.
I went on saturday 27.4.13 with 2 friends and their two toddlers for the first time. The meals were reasonably priced and the buffalo wings with a blue cheese sauce for only $10 was enough for a full meal rather than the tiny entree I was expecting.
The decor is lovely, lots of interesting pieces hidden in the nooks and crannies and the kids had a ball running around in the back beer garden where we sat. I especially loved the bicycle (see photo) leant against one of the walls.
I will definitely be back whenever I am in Melbourne and really hope the locals will support this great place, which even though extensively renovated, has lost none of it's original charm.
The staff were very friendly and I can't wait to go there in winter and to sit in front of the open fireplace.
Support local!!!!
