Here's a tip for staff (not just here, but anywhere). I won't even charge you for it! If a customer says they don't want assistance, then they don't. There is no use in then just sending another staff member 30 seconds later to ask again. Whatsmore, if the customer also tells that 2nd staff member they don't want assistance, this really is a sign that this customer is OK. If you try a third time, the customer may (as I did - yes, this is a true story) very reluctantly allow you to show your goods to them and sneak away at the first opportunity. But you won't end up with a sale.
I'm all for customer service, but simply wanted to look around without being assaulted by staff wanting to sell me stuff. If I'd had the time to see something I liked, I would have asked for help. But I didn't get this chance and so you lost a sale. Perhaps if you'd even asked me what I was looking for, made some suggestions, asked more questions, then I might have stuck around. But you didn't and so I didn't.
