Hellenic street food in a sleek modern restaurant, that’s the premise of Zeus, the second joint in the Sydney empire. Like their god, the food is lightning fast, and there seems to be a staff member for every guest on this busy Sunday. The signature Uncle Tzimmy ($10.50) with chicken and chips wrapped up in fresh pita hits the target. Eyeing off the open rotisserie of meat, we order from the ‘nude’ menu, this is pots of char-grilled meat (not healthy stuff like I originally thought), the Lamb ($18/200g) does not disappoint, especially with the Tzatziki ($6.50) and House-made Pita ($3).
The Zeus chain has expanded rapidly in Sydney & here it is in a funky warehouse space with very chilled service. It's upmarket street food & all are very tasty although the boys do complain it is on the small side & not enough meat in the gyros. The various meats were all tasty & I like the soft chewiness of the bread. The chips topped with fetta are delicious as is the Greek Donuts with nutella to finish the meal.
I have been wanting to go to Zeus for ages now, finally made it today and it didn't disappoint. Located in the brand new Saporium warehouse conversion on Morley Street is the Rosebery branch. The whole place has a really cool vibe and you can smell the cooking meats as soon as you enter. I had the Uncle Tzimmy with Chicken and it was so good. Essentially a pita stuffed with chips, chicken and salad smothered in tzatziki. But it's the attention to each element which makes the food so good, that and the prices are attractive too. The pita was soft, fluffy and subtly flavoured. Inside were perfectly cooked chips and chicken so tender it practically melts in your mouth. It was hard to choose just one thing on their menu too. I can't wait to go back to Zeus!
Having become local favourites at Drummoyne, Zeus Street Greek decided to have its footing at the Eastern Suburbs market by setting up shop in the recently turned factory building into a some sort of a new food hub. Occupying a front shop with equal spaces between in-store seats and covered alfresco dining options. The atmosphere and fit-out are quite down to earth and modern to appropriately reflect the fast food style nature of the restaurant.
The deal with Zeus Street Greek food offerings is really quite straight forward: a range of pitas with different inserts ranging from signature pork or chicken or lamb, up to soft shell crab. Then to throw in the healthy options to the mix are the nudes (which are simply the meat in pots) and salads. For desserts, there ...read more
