The Alice Springs School of the Air offers a wide range of educational services and activities for about 120 isolated primary and middle school children living on cattle stations, aboriginal communities, remote tourist facilities and national parks, as well as travelling families in the Northern Territory, the extreme north of South Australia and the south-east of Western Australia. The Alice Springs School of the Air provides this educational service in an area of 1.3 million square kilometres. Its Visitor Centre is an interpretive centre offering visitors from around the globe a virtual journey in "The World's Largest Classroom". It has a gift shop that stocks a variety of distinctive merchandise to provide financial support for enrichment programs for the School. The visitor experience includes a short film and guide presentation providing a narrative about the distinctive history and world-renowned innovations since 1951. During the school term, visitors have the opportunity to view ‘live’ lessons and are shared stories about our students and families’ outback lifestyle… giving an inspiring and enlightening insight to a uniquely Australian school.
