1. Establish a good record-keeping system to satisfy ATO requirements. (Do you know five years to keep all of your business records is the minimum requirement?)
2. Manage your debtor and creditor accounts to keep you informed about how much people owe to you, and how much you owe to people, and make suggestions to debt collection (really a headache, isn't it), and cash flow management.
3. Process payroll to meet up PAYG and superannuation obligation. (Do you know you need to pay superannuation guarantee for some subcontractors, who are deemed to be an employee?)
4. Reconcile your bank, credit card, business loan accounts (match your accounting records to the bank records).
5. Generate Profit & Loss and Balance sheet to keep you updated with how much you make or lose (unfortunately) in a specified period, and your business financial position at a point of time (better off or worse off).
6. Learn accounting software such as MYOB or Quickbooks. (If you are a fellow, who likes to challenge yourself.)
7. Prepare and lodge your BAS on your behalf. (To deal with GST isn't a fun job even for a professional.)
