The Sydney Learning Clinic is an interdisciplinary service for behavioural, attentional, literacy, learning and language disorders. The Clinic caters for a wide spectrum of developmental and emotional conditions including autism spectrum disorders, anxiety/phobias, depression, excessive fatigue, sleep disorders, enuresis/encopresis, motivational & anger control, teasing/social difficulties, social communication and study skills training and giftedness.
Developmental-behavioural paediatricians here provide a range of management and treatment options that have good research backing. Many parents are confused by the array of alternative approaches and "herbal" preparations advertised. Medication is only one option in the multidisciplinary approach. Behavioural, family therapy, cognitive therapy, and classroom/school techniques are the mainstays of treatment.
Most children present due to a number of interacting causes. The nature of the conditions we manage are complex. Our assessment procedures are chosen for their relevance to drawing up management strategies.
The aim of the Clinic is on creating an optimal treatment plan for each child. Problem areas are dealt with in order of assessed priority and ongoing support is available. The Clinic works in collaboration with schools, parents, other therapists and carers.
At the Sydney Learning Clinic we realise the importance of promoting enthusiasm and healthy work attitudes during childhood. In therapy, not only will weaknesses be addressed but equally important, strengths are boosted, to give a balance of work and fun and to maintain children's eagerness.
