Global Gardens of Peace is an initiative where gardens and playgrounds was initiated by the Australian people but will be globally funded, created and delivered for post war, conflict and underprivileged communities. The vision is to to create peaceful, safe and serene environments where children and their families can come together to play, rest, heal and interact. They will be places of enjoyment, laughter, connection and peace. The foundations of a solid and harmonious community will be created based on some fundamental values of joy, harmony, family, understanding, friendship, tolerance, and above all, a hope for a better future for generations to come.
In these gardens, children and their families will enjoy nature as a healing property. The gardens will be both an active and passive space where children have choices â?? a choice to explore and discover, a choice to enjoy the beauty of the plants and new birth; a chance to sit and inhale the scents or relax; or a choice to climb and enjoy the sounds of laughter around them. A Global Gardens of Peace garden will be a community environment that is green, clean, beautiful and fun, where children can come and simply enjoy being children: where families can play, picnic and enjoy being together. The gardens will also be designed to create opportunity for local employment and education to ensure ongoing maintenance is fully considered from the beginning.
Hope, joy, happiness, safety, peace, community, harmony, foundation, friendship, reconnection, children and family are key words that are evoked through the upcoming brief and all elements of design for each garden.â??Moiraâ??s Gardenâ? in Gaza is the first of the Global Gardens of Peace initiative where more gardens of peace will be developed globally.
