THE SURGEON-BARBERS In the past, the art of surgery and the trade of Barber were combined. In 1540 England, the company of Barber-Surgeons was formed which lasted to 1745 when the Surgeons and Barbers were separated. The Red and White Barbers Pole is left over from this time, red represents blood and white represents bandages. In the 50's Barbers were rocking out popular Hair Styles ranging from the very popular Crew Cut to the longer Elvis Presley style and then the Caesar cut a style copied from Julius Caesar, Emperor of Rome.
