What is United Taekwondo? United Taekwondo is not just another martial arts school or exercise studio. While our classes include all the dynamic and traditional techniques you expect from a martial art, together with practical self-defence skills and fitness training, we offer much more than that. Our aim is to help our students enjoy learning the Art of Taekwondo in a safe environment and develop confidence which, we believe, is the key to achieving in all areas of life. Taekwondo also offers many physical benefits such as increased fitness and flexibility. Our training sessions are open to everyone, from individuals to families, to come and watch and get a better understanding of what we do. We also encourage people to trial us free of charge and obligation. Whether you want to get in shape or achieve other personal goals, we provide the experience, expertise and a friendly, supportive environment to help realise your goals. What happens during United Taekwondo training? Each training session runs for one hour. In order to help students improve and to keep the classes interesting, the content of each class is different. Shao Chi Chuan has been developed through the application of modern biomechanical principles, coupled with the ancient and ultra-sophisticated art of Tai Chi. This unique system of self-defense was founded and developed in Christchurch, New Zealand by Grandmaster Chan in 1975. It has since grown into an international entity, with schools throughout New Zealand, as well as in Australia, the UK and USA. Tai Chi is a martial art known for its calm movements and reliance on accuracy and softness, rather than strength and brute force, to overcome opponents. The result is a highly effective and precise martial art that equips students with a comprehensive set of techniques and tactics for self-defense, whilst simultaneously encouraging relaxed and efficient movement. Tai Chi stretches the muscles, frees up the joints, relaxes and correctly aligns the body, has natural breathing, and promotes circulation, leading to some of the amazing health benefits. With the correct intent, timing and feeling; the movements are totally natural and in proportion for the body. The Sydney branch has a strong instructor base with decades of experience between them. Currently the class ratio of 2:1 of instructors to student allows for careful mentoring and is a rarity in modern martial arts schools. Yoshinkan Aikido is reknowned for its strong adherence to basics, ensuring students learn the correct form from the beginning. Aikido is a Japanese martial art that takes an attacker's strength and momentum and uses to throw or control the assailant. Aikido is a great full body work out, students develop core body strength as well as increased flexibility and stamina. Aikido training is an effective way to lose weight and keep it off as well as being great for stress relief. Aikido is trained by men and women of all ages. A number of our students have started aikido training in their mid-fifties with no previous experience. Kids classes are a mix of traditional aikido movements and techniques with plenty of fun & games. Emphasis is placed on maintaining a disciplined yet supportive environment.
