What is Social Enterprise? Social enterprises are organisations that trade commercially for the purpose of enabling and delivering social impact. Our social cause The impact of not having access to employment and training can be debilitating. Unemployment is a major reason for poverty and poverty is the major cause of housing stress and homelessness. There is a dire need for social enterprise in Melbourne's northern suburbs, rated as some of the highest areas of social and economic disadvantage in Australia. Unemployment rates are significantly higher than that of the Victorian state average and youth unemployment is reported to be pushing up to 40%. In addition, employment rates for people with a disability show they are 50% less likely to have a job, ranking Australia 21 out of 29 of the OECD countries. These are serious social issues that are at the heart of our reason for being. Enable is an innovative not for profit organisation founded in August 2013 to tackle high unemployment head-on in Melbourne's north to relieve poverty and the risk of homelessness due to lack of access to work and learning for highly disadvantaged jobseekers. As a social enterprise, EnableÃ¢??s vision is a connected community without disadvantage.
