THE LATEST IN EYE CARE
With advances in technology, we now have the RETINAL CAMERA. This provides the optometrist with an improved method to examine the retina at the back of the eye. These photographs of the retina, macula, and optic nerve/disc are stored in the computer. This allows for easier examination of the images, storage for long term comparisons and monitoring of conditions.
Some of these conditions are:
- Glaucoma
- Macular disease
- Retinal vascular disorders
- Hypertensive retinopathy
- Optic disc swelling
- Diabetic related changes
- Retinal detachment
Some are common and easily remedied, while others are rare, more difficult to diagnose and require more complex treatment.
Here at VALUSPECS, I routinely take retinal photos for every person, as part of their regular eye test. This service is not covered by Medicare. Most practices charge a fee. At VALUSPECS this service is provided at no charge, as it is of such a great benefit to detecting and monitoring eye conditions. I advise people to have regular comprehensive eye tests.
