The service offers psychoanalysis and psychoanalytically-oriented counselling to individual adults and couples. What is offered, first and foremost, is the opportunity to speak about problems, both present and past, and to be listened to closely by someone who is neither a friend nor a family member.
The difficulties which people come with are diverse. These include anger, loneliness and relationship difficulties, suicidality, sexual problems, marriage and parenting issues, childhood sexual abuse. Also seen are those suffering from a mental health problem, such as anxiety and depression, as well as those who have a formal psychiatric diagnosis, such as post-traumatic stress, bipolar or personality disorder.
The practitioner, Dr Peter Gunn, is a psychoanalyst, recognised as such by The Freudian School of Melbourne, School of Lacanian Psychoanalysis. He is also accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers as a mental health social worker. He has over twenty years experience in both public and private settings.
