The oldest continually licensed pub in the City of Sydney, The Australian has certainly seen some things in its 186 years, including the gangland-style execution of a notorious underworld figure in 1956. Today it’s best known for its quaint wine bar, annual October beer festival and, of course, the exotic pizza menu – think crocodile, emu and kangaroo. But despite now being a thoroughly modern boozer, The Australian has lost none of its rough ‘n’ ready charm.
