Eaglehawk Neck Backpackers offers accommodation at Eagle Hawk Neck, 15 minutes from Port Arthur. There are two campsites and two dormitories.The amazing history of Eaglehawk Neck might be enough to keep some backpackers fully occupied, but if they have enough time they could be just as fascinated by the spectacular rock formations, the forests, the complex coast with its bays, inlets, headlands and offshore islands.Eaglehawk Neck is a strip of dunes, 150 metres wide, with Pirates Bay on one side and Eaglehawk Bay on the other. Its an official historic site, including the 1832 built Officers Quarters, with a story to make your hair stand on end. But there’s so much else to see - Patersons Arch, the Tessellated Pavement, Tasman Arch, Devils Kitchen ... all spectacular rock formations carved by the waves - the work of thousands of years. Looking out to sea you can view the marvellous Hippolyte Rocks.You can walk or cycle - nowhere is very far here. But you must leave time to swim, snorkel, dive, go fishing. While you’re out buy fresh vegetables and a steak for the barbecue. Or take home your catch, for a really satisfying dinner.
