WHAT IS SATYANANDA YOGA?
Satyananda Yoga is an internationally renowned traditional system of yoga developed by Swami Satyananda Saraswati, a modern yoga master. Widely regarded as integral yoga, Satyananda Yoga encompasses all the major branches of yoga. The aim of an integral approach is to develop and balance all aspects of ones being ,body, mind, emotions and psyche leading the practitioner towards a more harmonious state of being. Satyananda Yoga is a systematic and step by step approach to yoga and can be applied according to the individual needs. Therefore it can be practised by anyone, regardless of age, ability or fitness level. The wide range of yoga practices and philosophies offered in the classroom environment can also be extended into daily life, providing useful tools that can easily be integrated into one's lifestyle.
YOGA PRACTICES TAUGHT
Asana (yoga posture) practiced with emphasis on awareness, gently and non-competitively. The asanas work on the physical body, gently stretching and toning the muscles and organs, stimulating the nervous system, improving health and flexibility.
Pranayama (breathing practices) Breath work is a major component of a class. The aim of pranayama is to awaken, balance and expand the vital energy in the body. Pranayama is also useful for relaxation and calming the mind.
Meditation is introduced at Level 2 classes, including theory and practice, leading to inner stillness, balance and harmony.
Satyananda Yoga Nidra is a simple guided deep relaxation and meditation technique experienced lying down, and is often the favorite practice of yoga students. It involves a systematic relaxation and purification at the physical, mental and emotional levels. Yoga nidra has many associated health benefits and is used widely to relieve stress, tension, anxiety and insomnia.
