Honestly, don’t expect too much from this place, particularly since it happens to be located in a shopping centre. I would point out that it also happens to be the Elizabeth shopping centre, but that really doesn’t make any difference since pretty much all shopping centre cafes tend to be pretty much the same. However, this place wasn’t all that bad, especially since they did serve up a decent pot of tea, and also did a half decent breakfast. In the end, it isn’t a bad place to take a rest while doing some shopping.
I have been a 42nd Street Cafe customer for many years and although I no longer live in the area I had the opportunity to have lunch there recently, an experience I will never repeat. I sat waiting for 20 minutes before I was approached and asked if I was ready to order. By this stage my 4 year old (who in the past would've received a colouring in sheet and pencils upon entering the cafe) was over the long wait and desperate for food. We didn't order anything fancy (a kids cheese sandwich and a special off the board) but it still took 30 minutes for our food to arrive. Add this to the 20 minutes waiting time before being served you may as well say it took close to an hour for us to begin eating!! I understand the cafe was sold in recent times- bring back the old owners I say or definitely try somewhere else!
