Guy touted he worked with Brisbane Airport and name-dropped other large clients. If you're a large business customer, I'm sure he'll do great work so he can later get more work from them. But if you're a little homeowner AND ANYTHING GOES WRONG then fuggedaboutit. For us, the job didn't go well. We had to threaten legal action for him to come back and do it right. Took months and months for him to send someone back to fix the issue and then it still wasn't done right. Lesson learned. Don't go with a business like this unless you're a large customer. They have no incentivce to come back (obviously being honorable is not enough).
We needed to get a retaining wall that was failing fixed and had suffered sticker shock from what other contractors had quoted. We were referred to Greg Ryan the owner of Artistic Landscape by a builder who had worked with him many times. He attended the site promptly, had a calm air about him as he assessed the situation and provided a quote that was comprehensive and significantly less than the others.
The bonus arrived when the work was commenced. His team were professional, they were fastidious about protecting my lawn and pavers, the work was done to perfection and the result was beyond our expectation. I had trusted this provider as I thought he was working in collaboration with, and recommended by, an architect whose books I respect. However, Artistic Landscapes (sic) provided an unreliable and incompetent service, and never provided the 50% refund he promised. Artistic Landscapes was contracted to kill weeds in a gully. There were constant delays (months) with excuses that were not credible. When he finally did spray, large patches of weed were left untouched while he sprayed land outside the agreed boundaries. Several of my young trees lost all their leaves despite his assurances (thank goodness I had bagged the smaller plants!). Unwittingly, I had paid him in full in cash at the point of the initial spraying, not knowing how unprofessional his service was.
