I have just returned home from dining at Barton's restaurant and I am extremely disappointed. My husband and I love pork belly and have had many delicious serves at many different restaurants. We were so disappointed with what was served up at Barton's today. Not only was it the most expensive at $46.00 but it consisted of 2 thin strips of pork spare ribs with no crackling in sight. It was grilled not slow cooked without the delicious sauces that are usually served with it. When we complained we were told the price was because scallops were served with it. These were about the size of a 2cent piece and incredibly overcooked. When we complained we were told that it would be reported to management but no one came to talk with us, no apologies or offer of a alternate meal. Fortunately some one at our table didn't eat the many chips they had or the prawns so he shared with us, if this had not occurred we would have left hungry. All the other meals at ...read more
Barton's Restaurant is attached to The Caledonian Hotel. The restaurant looks over the park side of North Adelaide corner, coming into the city. I came here on the weekend for a function and the set up was nice and simple. The staff were friendly, the service was good and the food wasn't too bad... Regarding the steak on the menu, not sure if because it was a function that they only gave two options for the steak to be cooked (wedium OR well) or that is what they do all the time...? All in all, it was a lovely afternoon here at Barton's.
There appears to be a staffing issue both in the kitchen and on the floor - there was one person in the Barton restaurant and had to pull in people from the bar to assist. We had quite a lengthy wait for drinks, for our food order to be taken, our entree to arrive and dessert (however, there were apologies all round).
The food was not up to expectation. It is clearly an italian restaurant but was lacking the italian touch. Either lots of flavours happening which were swamping the main ingredients or dishes were lacking taste.
On such a competitive strip standards need to remain high.
This place has a great atmosphere with comfy lounges, bar area, cafe area and dining room. The staff are friendly and the service is good. Unfortunately the food leaves something to be desired. We ordered pub grub - schnitzel and steak sandwich - both were average and the accompanying chips were soggy. Also, if you're going to have a transparent door into the kitchen (which is on the way to the bathrooms) it would be good for the kitchen to be tidy and cleaned - there were tea towels and food scraps all over the floor which doesn't appeal after you have eaten food which came out of there!
