Baxter's Lot

I love the bar, and I have loved it since I first discovered it a couple of years back. Basically it is one of those quintessential Melbournian hole in the wall bars, and has a really laid back and chilled atmosphere. Not a huge range of beers, but that is to be expected since it is rather small. However, the other thing about this bar is that while they do have an outdoor area at the front, it is the inside that it actually the best part of it. In fact it seems as if you would be wasting the place if you pretty much spend all your time outside.

I didn't have a ton of fun here, but that's not because it isn't a great bar. On the contrary, I really liked the space, which seems to be a converted Fitzroy rowhouse with interesting nooks upstairs and down. One of the bigger rooms is used for a photo exhibition, and they advertise live music 7 days a week, so this place is really cultured! As the night wore on, though, the singer's set devolved into Katy Perry covers etc. and the place got packed out with an overly drunk, overdressed crowd doing tequila shots ($10 a shot, really??). I'd come back, but only for pre-dinner drinks.
