Cecil Hotel

For a pub named after a famous Hollywood director (check out the photo, you will notice the words 'B de Mills' under the pub's name) this is a pretty ordinary pub. I suspect it may have something to do with Southport not being as much of a tourist haven as some of the other parts of the Gold Coast. Anyway, it basically has a sports bar, a bistro, and some pokie machines hidden away in an area separated by frosted glass. The staff really didn't seem to be all that enthusiastic serving somebody who had never been here before, nor was there anything inside to suggest that there was a Hollywood theme to this place. In fact it was just your standard pub, nothing to make it stand out from all of the other places nearby (or at least in Surfers) to attract the holiday crowd. I guess if I'm ever back down this way I will probably give this place a miss.

Service was relatively fast considering the amount of patrons. It was $4 basics all day, and they have a lunch specials menu. We got a steak with chips and salad and the "Cecil's burger". Both the delicious and I would've given another 1/2 star if they had a bernaise sauce to compliment the steak

The orange juice is cordial.



The $10 steaks at lunch are not bad, but the salad is of a defrosted frozen type.



The music played is from an ipod, it is either Triple J stuff, which is good, a teenage girl's music, or a 40-something year old's classic rock hits.
