Childrens Performing Company of Australia
Developing young people through the performing arts. The Children's Performing Company of Australia (CPCA) is committed to developing young people through the performing arts. Since 1984, the company has provided innovative high quality performing arts training to young people aged five to 18 of every ability and level of interest.
Weekly class rehearsals aim to equip young people with the skills and confidence to contribute their own ideas and listen to and accommodate the ideas of others. End of season, charity and touring performances aim to give young people a wide variety of onstage experience and to boost confidence and skill in live performances and public speaking.
The company offers three streams of performance training.
The Young Australian Broadway Chorus provides training in musical theatre while students study the fundamentals of drama through the Victorian Youth Theatre. Children aged 5-7 years are introduced to the magical world of theatre in Beginners OnStage, a fun and structured program which combines music, dance and drama. Additionally, all members have the opportunity to join our Talent Agency, the Talent Company of Australia. Nearly 3,000 students currently participate in programs at 20 rehearsal venues around Melbourne. ...read more

When you audition for the Childrens Performing Company of Australia they make you feel like you are special to get in to their program, but this isn't true they take everyone who auditions as we got in plus all our friends and most couldn't sing a note. Once you are in and they have your money (they are expensive) they home in on the outstanding talent and those kids get all the leads and solos and the "rest" (kids like my child) don't get a lot of coaching or attention paid to them at all. My daugther said she often sat on the floor and watched the others, especially near show times. It's probably great it you have a very talented child and they are selected to do main roles because their productions are of a high standard, but if you are looking for something to boost your child's confidence then this definitely isn't it. After three years of the same, we called it quits and went elsewhere.
