First time to a winery to have lunch for a friends birthday and i must say i had a really enjoyable and relaxing time. The reason why wineries never interest me before is because i'm not a wine drinker. However, i think the choice of wine the waitress recommended to go with my lunch was really nice as i mention i like something fruity and goes down well and bubbly and i was not disappointed. We had a platter to share followed by our main dishes which came at a reasonable time. I really enjoyed my lunch and i had 2 glasses of wine which goes to show my thoughts on wine has possibly changed. I do suggest to book in advance as there was a line of people waiting as they had no reservations so lucky we had a booking. If you don't dine at their restaurant you can do a wine tasting at the bar just outside which was also crowded. Then there is the Chandon shop where you can purchase your favourite wine after tasting. It happened to be a beautiful warm day so ...read more
We went on a Public Holiday and were lucky to arrive early to secure one of the last outdoor seats in the sun. So our tip is that you should book ahead or go early.
The mussels were really generously portioned although the best cut steak cooked at medium rare we found to be a bit chewy. All the main courses on the menu come with recommended sparklings or wines. We also did a sparkling tasting which we really enjoyed.
The self-guided tour provides a great insight into the sparkling making process. Such a picturesque winery and so professional in its presentation in all facets.
We went on a winery tour today and Domain Chandon was easily the very best of the lot. Best views of the surrounding region by far, best facilities and absolutely the best wines we drank, err tasted. I just would have preferred my coffee to be hotter AND those gizmos to ward off the torrent of flies that made being outside hellish
The winery is absolutely beautiful, great place to see the view of Yarra valley, take some pictures and taste a good wine. I actually went with my friends that havent been in a winery before and spend some time tasting the different sparking choices Chandon offers. The prices were reasonable if we are talking about wines (even cheaper that some other wineries near the valley), however we were a disappointed about the meals after more than 45 minutes of waiting, we asked for 1) Sticky master stock chicken, fried rice, snow peas and ginger with soy and sesame and 2) Pressed slow cooked lamb with pure of swede, fresh grated horseradish and Port glaze. In summary: well-presented but ridiculously in size and in consequence overpriced in their value. I will definitely come back to buy wines from there and maybe taste them on the premises, but not a good combination if someone wants to have a decent lunch.
