European Bier Cafe
European Bier Cafe is a haven for beer lovers, as it offers over 14 international beers on tap and up to 50 other varieties. Add to this the old-style dark wood interiors and hearty international inspired pub fare and it is hard to remember you are in Melbourne. Functions can be booked for up to 300 people.
It took me quite a while to get to this place, but a lot of that had to do with me not developing a taste for European beers until I had spent some time in Belgium. Okay, this cafe isn't limited to Belgium beers, but since the Belgiums tend to be the experts in making beer you can be assured that there is a pretty decent representation here. Actually, they have a pretty decent selection of beers as it is, and even if you don't find something that appeals to you on tap, you can certainly find something on their rather extensive menu. They also happen to have a rooftop deck, though I suspect that it may be a different venue, however they didn't object when I took my beer up there. Okay, this place does tend to be pretty pricey, but half of that has to do with it dealing with imported beers, but it is certainly worth checking out.
This place has a nice rooftop and good selection of beers on tap. They run a very good Oktoberfest event here which is very festive and fully of entertainment and steins. At some point last year they introduced a pizzeria which is quite popular Their pizzas there range from $7-$12. The lunch menu and parmas are so-so. The tapas menu and happy hours is very good!
I went here for lunch on a Friday. Not the best choice as they do have a lunch menu but the pricing is no different to their dinner menu. There were no lunch specials either.
Our food came out fairly quickly which is a plus and the serving size was perfect for lunch. I had the chicken parma while my mate had the porterhouse steak. My parma was very dry, the crumb wasn't crunchy and the tomato sauce topping tasted like it was straight out of a can. The chips too were nothing special.
My mate told me the steak was very tough, not cooked to his liking and tasted like a very cheap cut of porterhouse.
I was very surprised to see this place rather packed for lunch. I wouldn't go back and neither would I recommend it.
