This is a bit away from other things in North Sydney, but still close enough that you can walk there from the train station. I went on a weekend and I'm not a big drinker so I parked close by, actually on Walker Street. I was there for a group function, we were in a semi-private area which was nice, and we had waitstaff bring us hot finger food, and all we had to do was to go to the bar to get our drinks. The food was hot and plentiful and it filled us up so we can't complain about that. Alcoholic beverages were nice and cold and were priced as you would expect.
I must say that I absolutely love this pub, if only because I ended up having a chat with the owner who happens to be one of those really laid back easy going types of guys. Sure, I was here in the late afternoon, but from what he told me it gets pretty hectic on the weekends. They have a pretty cool rooftop deck, as well as some really nice lounges, and at least two bars. Once again this is the second time that I have visited this pub, and both times I have really liked it. I guess my second visit here simply confirmed my initial impression. Like the owner, it is a really laid back and relaxed place during the day, but it sounds as if it really fires up at night. It is a shame that I don't like in the Sydney area because I would definitely come back here, even if to see what it is like on the weekends.
I really only come here if work Colleagues make me, and when they do it's for the $10 burgers. Which include Pulled Pork, Beef, Chicken and I think there's two other burgers on the special menu for diner. All come with chips and aoli and are well worth the visit.
Drinks are reasonable for the area. Chivas and Coke for $9.50 ($4 cheaper than a nearby bar with a "Verandah") always seems to have room and a table, even on a Friday night, as it's not the best after works venue. A bit lowbrow I think for the North Sydney suits.
But I got no complaints, staff do their job and aren't out the back hitting on eachother or patrons, so you get your drinks in a timely fashion. No huge pokie room which is a good thing and an upstairs area, hence why there's always enough room. Though some drinks/specials available are not available at all bars which is weird.
Check this place out if in the area and feel unpretentious.
