Fishlips seafood cafe

$14 Steak Burger with the works was inedible. The steak was chewier then a 7 foot wookie. Disappointing

We've been wanting to try this local place since it won best fish place & last night we did. Although the service is friendly, the food was atrocious! We ordered the seafood banquet for 2 as takeaway. The fish was seriously overcooked & dry, in fact I think pretty much everything other than the chips was overcooked. Even the chips were ordinary. Salads were bland also. It was fairly expensive ($42 from memory) but it is a lot of food. Sadly, we pretty much threw most of it out &, had we been dining there, would have returned it to the kitchen & asked for our money back. Maybe it was just an off night but we certainly won't be back!

This is our local fish n chip shop and I'm a bit concerned to read the negative reviews! We go here regularly, but always get the same things. So on that note, I can recommend the calamari, chips and whiting. The calamari has always been fresh and tasty, the chips generally are good but we've had them overdone and under salted a couple of times. I've had the grilled salmon on a number of occasions, it's a nice piece of fish but usually a bit over cooked unfortunately (but I feel like expecting perfectly cooked salmon from a fish & chip shop is probably unreasonable!). All in all we'll keep going here!

Ye Venerable Bard was wont to say "there's many a slip between the carp and Fish Lips". Unfortunately he was correct. While I can't say I've had an apalling serve from here it is also the case that I have very rarely had outstanding fare either.....the fact that I have on the odd occassion means it can be done but it usually isn't, sadly. Most of the time things are adequate only which IMHO is disappointing when you know it could be excellent with a bit more effort. The lack of a warming cabinet, especially in winter, is criminal as the wrapping is only lightly done (good, as it lets out steam; bad as, without a cabinet, too much heat is lost-don't turn up a shade late to pick up!!). Actual rating would be 2.5 stars...gave 3 as they (barely) don't deserve "poor". Doubling as an eat-in should really mean the takeaway would be mostly excellent IMHO but it's not. I would NOT dine here due to the lack of care on the takeaway side.

We are local and honestly the fish here is not the best ... always overcooked albeit crumbed or battered. Calameri is and has always been very nice. Hot chips lovely along with milkshakes. Salad choices lovely at lunch but by dinner time not good. Have purchased prawns here too and wouldn't bother again.
