Fairly typical regional paper with standard local fare such as council matters, gossip, stories bearing huge shock-horror headlines that consist of the opinions of just one local person and photos of local identities smiling at the camera. Geelong does generate its share of big stories and when they happen the Addy does a reasonably good job of covering them, but its national and international coverage is always dated. For some strange reason they run a lot of opinion pieces by people who don't carry a whole lot of weight in the community. Also a very odd text the editor page which seems to be merely an outlet for homophobes, religious zealots and illiterate yobs. Still, the Advertiser is essential for anyone wanting to get a feel for Geelong.
