Glen Helen Resort
Located in a break of the spectacular West MacDonnell Ranges, Glen Helen Resort is the climax to an adventurous and colourful drive, a little over an hour from Alice Springs. Indulge in a cold beer while relaxing at sunset on the back verandah of this restored station homestead, then you treat yourself to an excellent meal in the Namatjira Gallery Restaurant. Enjoy a swim through Glen Helen Gorge, hike in the ranges, raft up Redbank Gorge or take a scenic helicopter flight. Full and half day tours to Palm Valley, Tnorala / Gosse Bluff, Redbank Gorge, Roma Gorge and Mount Sonder are available, as are transfers to and from Alice Springs. Make Glen Helen your base for exploring the West MacDonnell Ranges. Many people find one day is not enough to stay at Glen Helen and enjoy true outback hospitality - there is so much to see.
We loved Glen Helen when we stayed there a couple of months ago, however our second time was terrible. We booked in earlier that week to their restaurant and when we arrived on Friday and made sure we where booked in for Saturday night. They showed me the booking book and I seen two other booking for the same night. We arrived early on Saturday for dinner and where told that our table was outside, I challenged this and the staff told me that they don't do our size tables inside, I said that we where here two months earlier with the same amount of people. They didn't say anything else and lead us to the outside table, we where placed on a table with plastic chair, it was cold and we still had to pay $30+dollars for a scotch fillet hmmm. I then wrote a message to the management to explain my disappointment, as it was very busy I gave it to a staff member to forward onto them. We had dinner and whilst listen to the local entertainer, was ...read more
Dear Brett
I can see you are determined to give Glen Helen as much bad publicity as you can, copying your review from another site here.
I cannot copy my response as this site does not allow sufficient space.
Suffice to say that we do not go out of our way to make things difficult or uncomfortable for our guests, and give the very best service possible. One does not win Gold Plate Awards without great service. Our indoor restaurant is small and so on busy nights large groups are often seated outdoors so the tables indoors do not need to be combined, and so family groups do not need to be hurried to finish a meal for resetting their tables.
Just because it was possible to seat a table of 8 on one occasion inside does not mean it is always possible.
We try to accommodate everyone, as there is no other restaurant nearby.
Sometimes our best efforts will not be enough!!
One of a few places to eat along this very long road: and what a view! One of the great things here too is it's literally a 5 minute walk from the resort to the actual Gorge. Also available are icecreams, local and other beers + assorted alcoholic beverages plus the general touristy things.
There's also a small aviary with some local birds that's interesting enough.
Only saw the accommodation from a distance but it looked average enough.
Dear seansydney,
Thanks for reviewing Glen Helen Resort. Sounds like you were just passing through, so just letting you know we have simple motel accomodation and a great fine dining restaurant for evenings. Hope you can come and spend a few days based with us and further exploring the West Macdonnell Ranges on another occasion
Kind regards
Shelagh O'Brien. Manager
