EXCELLENT FOOD at a REASONABLE PRICE POINT and is BYO ($3 corkage per person).
Just be WARNED of the following points (all of which which don't bother me):
1) Always busy, noisy and cramped; 2) must book prior; 3) if you make an early booking (eg 6pm) you will be booted out at 7:30pm sharp; 4) the service is chaotic and variable; 5) no dishes come with rice and the service staff don't offer rice when you order, so DON'T forget to order rice; 6) it IS kid-friendly, so if you hate kids and/or loud noise - go elsewhere; and 7) the lighting is harsh and bright, so not a place to take your date if he/she has a less than attractive face - otherwise your date will look like a gargoyle in the restaurant lighting.
A great homely, local Japanese restaurant. It is always busy and many people line up before it opens at 6pm. The food is so fresh and the food is authentic and delicious. We order the shiitake mushrooms, pork entree, tempura main, and the teriyaki squid. The tempura was crunchy and perfectly cooked, the miso was a beautiful complex flavour and the squid was soft and tasty. The flavours were quite sweet so order a side of rice.
We spent $88 for two and left very full and happy. Will definitely be here again. A great place for a family dinner, a catch up with friends or a casual date.
