LE MONDE
It’s away from main light rail construction project so it makes for a nice warm haven on Foveaux where you can turn it into your office for the day, enjoy a catchup with mates or just indulge.

I came here again as I really wanted the matcha hot cakes and last time they were sold out. This time, we managed to score some and they were delicious - two beautifully fluffy matcha pancakes topped fruits like kiwi fruit, orange, strawberries, blueberries, icing sugar, some toasted oats and accompanied by a chocolatey coffee syrup. This was one of the nicest things we have eaten in a long time. We also got the potato rosti, flavoured with sweet potato, well poached runny eggs with tomato and feta - this was also excellent! We were hungry so also shared a bircher as well with a poached pear, fruits and pomegranates. For drink I got a huge matcha latte with my favourite thing - latte art, done very well! We loved this place and certainly lives up to the instagram pictures!
Le Monde is a small cafe space where you and your friends can inhabit a corner by the cushions and talk for ages while the counter bustles with takeaway coffee and croissant orders. It's a nice mix!
It's nice and quiet during a weekday with the only sounds being nearby chatter and the grinding of the coffee. Natural light floods through the windows and along with some indoor lights, create a dim but well lit space for a sunny brunch!
We ordered the Matcha pancakes ($16), Pulled pork ($18) and the Bacon Egg Roll Special ($10).
I'm a sucker for all things matcha so I loved the fluffiness of the pancakes with that slight bitterness of green tea! What totally completed the dish was that coffee expresso syrup. It was definitely one of the most delicious and different pancake flavour combinations I've had! Total winner! I now need this coffee syrup in my life!
For coffee shops, this hits all the marks. The coffee is excellent, the food is just fancy enough to be interesting, without being pretentious. Tasty too. The staff are happy and attentive. A guy called Maverick usually runs the till - he's chatty enough to make you feel welcome, but never so chatty as to make you want to back away. Perfect. The only criticism, and it's really minor, is that it can get noisy when it's full, so not perfect for grabbing a table for, say, a quick off-site meeting. #reviewtowin
