Peak Dining
Brisbane's best kept secret, Dowse Bar combines a transfixing interior with a casual and relaxed atmosphere, making for an innovative social experience steeped in a dizzying array of boutique beer, wine and cocktails. With graffiti art adorning the concrete walls, a spotted gum ceiling, Havana brown leather seats and other interesting furnishings, Dowse Bar is prefect for socialising and events, particularly for pre and post Suncorp Stadium functions.

Let's get straight down to it. I love pavlova, have since I was a young thing and still now I'm an old thing, but I haven't particularly found it a dish which lends itself well to a restaurant setting. But, I've been proved wrong. Now for a bit of the back story...
Iceworks is a complex a short stroll from Suncorp Stadium with ample underground parking (Given Terrace is usually a nightmare). There is a bar (Dowse Bar), a formal restaurant (Peak Dining) and a more casual restaurant (Iceworks Restaurant Bar). I've reviewed the other two before, so I'll just focus on dessert here. Peak Dining is part of the Iceworks complex, which has a bar (Dowse Bar), a formal restaurant (Peak Dining) and a more casual dining experience which is family friendly (Iceworks Restaurant). The whole complex was a bit of a revelation to me, having three distinct eating and drinking areas all in one space, but each felt completely separate to the others. Apparently there are apartments upstairs too. If only I could afford to live there I would be very pleased. Located at the very start of Given Terrace near Suncorp Stadium, there's a ton of parking underneath on the side street (Dowse). I started off at the Dowse Bar to unwind (you can read my review if you like), then moved on to Peak Dining with my dinner companion. ...read more
Dowse Bar - a strange name, it's actually the name of the side street that the Iceworks complex is on. I've lived my life in the Western Suburbs, been up and down Given and Latrobe Terraces a hundred times, but never stumbled onto or into this bar before. It's right at the top of Castlemaine St, which runs past Suncorp Stadium, making it a great alternative to the super and noisy crowded public bars of the stadium. I went on a non-game Thursday night, just before 6pm. I was immediately impressed. Not only has a lot of money been poured in, but a lot of great architectural thought has too. There's a very long doubled sided bar, complete with every kind of drink you could want. The ambiance was distinctively aimed at a youngish city clientel, with large plasma screens playing a variety of video clips. Thankfully to my old ears, the music level was just right and I even noticed a few songs that I knew. I decided to try the antipasto platter, as well as the ...read more
