Someone told me these were the best pizzas in Brisbane, and I really have to disagree. I don't know if my disappointment was mostly because I was expecting so much more, but the pizzas here are nothing more than average. I've tried it twice now and both times found myself disappointed.
I've liked this place on all three times I've been here, and would recommend it to friends. I've only really had the pizzas though, so I can't comment on the pasta / dessert menu.
My first thought was that $20 a pizza was a bit on the expensive side, though I guess it must be fairly expensive to rent a location in the heart of Brisbane. Plus they're quite big - each pizza is cut into 8 pieces. While they're not overflowing with topping, I was pleasantly surprised how well the flavours worked together. That's why I've given this place 4 stars. I don't normally like pizzas, but I would rank these pizzas better than Pizza Capers or La Porchetta.
Share a $20 pizza with a friend and combine it with a movie now that the Palace Barracks has lowered their prices to around $11 and it's a good valued night out.
It doesn't let me do less stars than that... Honestly would if I could. Where to start? Crap service, really wanted another drink... and some salt... noone to be found. Our table tried three different pizzas, each one as horrid as the last. Really a sad situation. Do yourself a favour and microwave a homebrand pizza you wont regret it as much as sitting down in that place.
There's no other way of putting this: This is THE best pizza in Brisbane. Bar none. Yes, Beccofino's also great, but this is more affordable and much more central. Situated next to the cinemas at the Barracks you are guaranteed an amazing pizza no matter what you have (and I've had them all).
My favourites are the Diavola, Carnivoro and the prosciutto one. The potato pizza is surprisingly good as well. I'd stay clear of the marinara, although the prawn pizza's good (different sauces).
Go on a Wednesday as all pizzas are $13! You might wait a bit for a table, and they don't do bookings, but totally worth it. Italian wine by the glass to go with it and you'll have an awesome mid-week outing!
