Rye Hotel
Situated opposite water at Rye Beach along the Mornington Peninsula, the appropriately named Rye Hotel is the perfect foreshore venue. With separate areas for the bar, bistro and function area, the Rye Hotel offers everything. The bar has a range of local beers on local and imported beers on tap along with wine and spirits. For those who enjoy the races, TAB facilities are also on site. With the spectacular water views, this is a great location for a conference or wedding.

have not dined here in years, the dcor is indeed unnoteworthy including the kids playground area. there are some seats outside the back and along a balcony out the front but I agree they could utilise the beachside location. the "children must remain seated at all times" sign is very confusing, seems totally unnecessary. the specials board on the cup weekend evening included a pasta specials matriciana $20, roast of the day beef, soup of the day cauliflower. we tried 3 meals from the menu - salt and pepper calamari which was actually very tender and did not look fresh but did taste nice and was sizeable for price $26/ chicken indian butter curry of the day $23.50 which was OK and fish and chips $24.50 which was reasonable. most of the meals on the menu were over priced such as flake/whiting battered $30, most between $25-$35 for pub quality meals. as always at these type of venues the waiters around your table were always friendly. only dined here as ...read more
Let me preface this review by pointing out that I was on a diet when we dined at the Rye Hotel...take that as you will. Either I could have been so deprived by dieting that anything non-diety would have tasted fantastic...or perhaps my state of mind meant that I was still diet focused & therefore a fussy diner & harsh critic. Maybe somewhere in between. Let's start with the decor. You know that "family" pub around the corner in the burbs...that looks like every other one? Yep this is one of them! Boring, standard, so not taking advantage of it's prime location perched near the beach. The food. Again, standard regular pub fare - a gastro pub this is not! I ended up getting the hot & cold seafood platter - yes a splurge from my diet. It was good, but not great. And that sums up the Rye Hotel. Not special in any way, but OK
The only good thing about this place is the play area for the kids, service was very poor, food was average and after 3 attempts to have a meal here with kids, and waiting over 1.5hours twice & once over 2 hours, to have poor food or (no food when they miss a meal) I will never eat here again. Gave the place 3 trys thinking each time maybe it was just a busy night or our bad luck but I think it was poor management. Offered no appology or renumeration for late or forgotten meals.
