We stayed here for one night. Big mistake. The grumpy greeting could be overlooked. However, we wish we hadn't have pre paid. The hotel was grubby. They let the locals smoke inside in the accommodation area (and crash out in the rooms).

This is unfortunate for you but the hotel has since been taken over by new management and all the accommodation has been updated/refurbished with freshly painted rooms, new carpet, new lighting, new bedding and a new outlook. We spent two nights there recently and the new management couldn't do enough for us. The food was great even though we did wait awhile it was worth the wait and they were extremely busy, always a good sign!
After driving 40 minutes to try and find somewhere that we could get a bite to eat for a late dinner, we tried the Shamrock Hotel in Alexandra. We arrived at 9 PM to find the staff and some of the locals drinking out the front of the hotel on the footpath. When we asked whether they were still open and serving food, we were laughed at by the staff and told "you've gotta be kidding, no chance". We then asked where they might be able to suggest where we could eat, and we were told "how about you go back to Melbourne - it's only 2 hours away".
With customer 'service' that bad, one can only assume that business is booming and they don't want to attract any new customers.
I for one would not go back to that 'establishment' in a million years even if you paid me.
