Did you know you can hire Lederhosen from this place?! Genius! Im pretty sure all the dark wooden panelling and low lighting makes the beer taste better, but lets face it, when you can order most of a litre of beer in an oversized stein are you going to turn around and walk the other way? No. Ive been to The German Club a few times now, but by far the event etched into my social calendar is the Round She Goes Market held in the huge hall above the eating area. The number of bargains Ive picked up have been amazing and then I spend the rest of my pocket money on a German beer so large the glass it comes in makes me feel like a child. German Club, you may have an aging exterior but inside you are full of a delicious array of German beers on tap, and a market that keeps me coming back.
A darlin little area, with great beers, served just like in Munich. Was there for the food though, and it was truly disappointing. The potato pancakes were great, but it was all downhill from there. The sauerkraut was bland, the brats were thin (so lacked flavour), and the potatoes were slimy. I really wanted to like this place, but very let down by the cuisine.
A great place to spend an evening. The staff are friendly, the beers enjoyable and the atmosphere and decor is "very German". The menu is large and varied, with a big choice of German dishes. The food is far from fancy, but is cooked authentically and is very very tasty! The Kasseler is my favoruite! Great value too - both at the bar and in the kitchen.
Highly recommended for a fun night of great food and friendly people! And if you try to speak German, the club members are always happy to engage and encouarge you.
