Used to be a good local, since the change of ownership and "renovation"...not so much
We loved this place before the change of ownership. Since the new owner's reno it is basically a very bad RSL, without RSL/club prices.
Black sheer curtains, more funerial than sexy. Dark and uninviting. Furniture....poo brown or army green. They have a lovely roof top area, if you're lucky to be there in the few hours a week it is open.
Food - mediocre is a generous, assessment. Bar prices - expensive. Wine is OK quality but at 1 hat restaurant prices if want to order by the glass.
Friday night and about 6 people there excluding our group. Understand COVID has made things harder, however this does not seem to be the way to keep ...read more
Update from recent visit: Their ladies toilets are not great and not checked during busy evenings. Have had to go to the bar to get any toilet paper on multiple occasions and one of the upstairs ones rarely flushes - definitaly an issue with the cistern that I know they were told about by one of my friends months ago
Recently also had to pull them up a few times on short wine and spirit pours. In their attempt to only go to the line, they don't quite make their line markers on the glass. Happened 3 times this weekend to me and also to others in our group. You might think after beening pulled up on it once, they woudl not try the same again with the same customers.
On the plus, the food has improved and they have some good specials. We do enjoy it when we eat here, knowing what we will get.
Now I'm really glad that I actually went out of my way to visit this pub because not only was it one of those cool pubs with a pretty decent beer garden, they also had something that I have never seen in a pub before – Leffe on tap. Okay, it has been a while since I went through my Belgium beer stage, but seeing a pub with Leffe (despite it having a pretty high concentration of alcohol) was something that I really couldn't turn down. Sure, Leffe may not be my favourite beer, but it's different. Anyway, as I said I quite liked the place, it had a pretty decent atmosphere, and a really nice beer garden. Sure, it isn't the cheapest of pubs to visit (and not the easiest to get to if you don't live in the area), but it is certainly worth a visit.
I've enjoyed every visit here, it's away from the main buzz of North Sydney, closer to Crows Nest in fact, and with lots of street parking, on West St. Read the signs properly, some are parking meters, some are one or two hours of free parking, some are free on weekends. There's a lovely restaurant called Uncorked, I've had many tasty meals there. Always good dishes, with all food groups represented, and of course vegetarian options, I recall lamb shanks being truly fab. There's also a sports bar, prices in line with other pubs and staff are always good. One thing is for sure, you don't read about fights or glassings occurring here in the local paper, so that's very pleasing. Highly recommended even for a cost Sunday lunch. Desserts to die for.
