Back on this side of town again to catch up with a friend. And wasn't too sure where else to go so we ended up here again at Treasury Cafe. This time i ordered a turkey spinach cranberry focaccia. It was so massive for roughly $13.00. I did not finish it. It was actually really nice but i just didn't have anymore room to fit it all. These were all pre-made and just needed to go in the sandwich press however my order took some time to come out. I probably waited 20mins. I did have a table number and when i saw the waiter holding my dish he was walking around for some time trying to find where i was sitting so more wait time. And when he finally found me he knew i was waiting for some time so he apologised. Overall still a busy cafe for all sections whether hot food or pre-made sandwiches or custom made sandwiches. Busy traffic during peak lunch time.
Pretty good location for those who work on this end of Melbourne CBD. I think the variety of food and selection Treasury Cafe has to offer is pretty good. Although food quality isn't the best and without salt and pepper is quite flavourless but i think for the price and size serving is pretty decent. Very busy at the ordering section but plenty of tables and chairs. Pay and collect food before grabbing a table. Food are already hot in ready to serve as you order. You can order a main meat dish and add salad and chips for just under $16 or you can add just one side for just under $14. Very filling. They also sell baguettes or sandwiches and also a great selection of desserts. When i went to make my order i was standing there for a while deciding what to get. So plenty to pick from which makes it hard and it does look good. I ordered the grilled fish with chips and salad and i was so full afterwards. A friend ordered lasagna with chips and salad and that also looked good ...read more
Had the worst meal ever today, floury / tasteless calamari and equally tasteless salads. After one bite I told the staff who said they would let the management know. The plate was still full when they took it away, and the "management" never even came to discuss it. Very very bad PR on their part. I know they are always popular, and it was the only place I used to go but not again. In fact the last few times I have noticed the food going downhill, but it is convenient, or should I say WAS convenient.
I gave this place a few chances. It was the overpriced food and terrible service which made me vow to never go back. Watching the staff forget my coffee order, then rudely snapping at me when I asked where my coffee was, watching my toast come out of the toaster and sit on the bench for 5 minutes while other people were served, and finally a ridiculously overpriced sandwich has put me off completely.
Much better food available just around the corner.
