Took our cat here to get emergency treatment for hepatic lipidosis - (her 2nd time so we knew what it was) overnight emergency plus a two day ongoing care until I could take her home to continue treatment at home. We were on a very tight budget, were continually told the total bill was under $1k - until we went to take her home to continue treatment at home and got the "total" bill. Talk about bill shock, it was over $2.5k! - front staff who did not care that we'd been calling 2 or 3 times a day to check on her progress and on the bill total and did not care that we'd been told several times that the bill was still under $1k. Not once were we told there were two separate billing systems! One for emergency and one for the normal vet hospital. Be very very careful if you take your pets here. It's a teaching vet hospital and they don't teach bedside manner at all. Very clinical and you'll only get answers if you pester and pester. Don't expect compassion and ensure ...read more
I've been going to the uni vet clinic for many years & have used their after hours emergency service, general practice, neurology department, eye care services & also the medicine department!! I have always found them to be very caring & helpful, always answering any concerns I had..Great staff & always caring & compassionate.I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else as they provide all the general/specialist & emergency treatment with the latest equipment under the one roof!!
My cockatiel was quite sick and on critical care for 3 days before I had to call and see if I could get him down as I was very worried about him and the previous vet clinic didn't have the special needs that he needed. When I called the reception to see if I could get him in, obviously being very stressed and not knowing where to turn to and where I could go, I was made to feel like I was somewhat 'lucky' to be getting him in to see someone on that night and that he was no big deal being a bird. Then I actually read the comments on here and feel like I really didn't want to go but had no other options. Aside from that experience, the vet who I wish I could remember her name, was absolutely amazing. She was so caring, compassionate and felt like she genuinely cared. Unfortunately Charlie passed away in her arms, and she gave me a pillowcase to bring him home in which I thought was very sweet, If I had to give my review on just her, I would have given her 10+ stars if I ...read more
When my appointment was made, no one informed me that for the desexing of my dog i would need to leave her over night. My partner and I had specifically arranged for time off work so that we could pick her up as he has a car with a backseat and I don't. I'm on my p-plates so i can't drive his car (it has a v8). When we told the staff they not only seemed completely unsympathetic but they ignored the statement. They also refused to answer questions about why she had to be in over night. Horrible service, leaving us with very few options to pick up our dog the next day. She will more than likely need to be kept until my partner and I finish work which could be very late in the evening, might even be past closing time, what the hell will we do then? I will NEVER return here.
I had a little pup and we were not allowed to see her even though she was dying. Students came to question us then the vet came in and Asked us the same questions. They really didn't seem to get it. They talked me into putting my litle one to sleep. Then wanted to put her in a plastic bag.I was schocked so i said no she will be coming home to be burried and they still wanted to us to take her home in a plastic bag. I again refused and said i would be taking her home in the towel i brought her in with. All they did was pop her on a bit of oxygen and see what her blood sugar level was and listen to her lungs then put her to sleep and that cost $500. No longer will i ever take an animal there in an emergency i want to talk to the vet first. Horrified and left me wondering
