I had better warn you from the outset about their most serious problem, they are too popular. As a result, they have long queues at every counter. But once you eventually get up front you have a great choice of what to eat. I went for locally made pie, well I think it is all locally made, and I was impressed. Not the cheapest that I have enjoyed but worth the stop over on my way back to Melbourne.
A great asset to Bendigo. Well made, tasty local produce used to create gorgeous dishes designed to be shared. Love the flathead tails and the calamari, and the pork with quinoa salad is delicious too. I've been twice for lunch and the service is excellent and attentive - can't wait to go one summer evening. Good wines too.
In a word: superb. From the food, to the service, to the ambiance - Mason's of Bendigo hits all the marks. The menu is based on share dishes, with an emphasis on local produce. High points included the tempura zucchini flowers with feta, beef sliders and the dessert tasting plate. But the highlight of the night was the spit-roasted shoulder of goat with grains, dates and pine nuts. We are already planning our next trip back to Bendigo, for another meal at Masons. Highly recommended, above all others.
