Give this restaurant a wide berth. We used to go here every time we went to Cairns but the service has gone to the pack. We got back to the our hotel and thought the bill was excessive, on checking they added another bottle of Savignon Blanc ($40) to the account. We went back the next day and the management said they would see the person that served us the following day and put a credit through, we rang a few times and it never happened. We are old school and only drink Chardonnay.
The on line vegetarian menu was not available for our visit we were offered a different vegetarian menu consisting of 3 choices, after ordering the first choice(a curry) we learned that it was made with FISH SAUCE, when this was brought to the management attention they offered to speak to the kitchen stafff, I find it hard to believe the management does not understand what a vegetarian is, in addition during the meal we were bitten by midges, as we are Cairns residents we had insect repellant with us
After visiting this place one afternoon for a beer, we were blown away at how nice it was. Great atmosphere, and such a cool place to kick back and relax as the sun goes down. We went back again another night to try out the restaurant, and unfortunately it was a big let down. Especially since this was the first bad restaurant we had encountered since being in cairns, which was a shame because it looked so nice. Service was terrible, took so long for wait staffs to acknowledge you, and even something simple like asking for water took forever to get. The food wasn't bad, but it was not anywhere near the quality of other restaurants in this price range. So my advice is check this place out for an afternoon drink but avoid the restaurant.
We came to Salt with two other friends for a lunch. After waiting for a long time with no acknowledgement (and almost empty establishment with two of the waitresses chatting together) we were brought to our table. The food was good though not exceptional but the service was very poor. We heard the waitresses being impatient and rude with other tables and were short with our own. Will not reccomend this place to anyone and will definately not return.
