x&y
A bar. A live music venue. A piece of Brisbane history.x&yBar is a venue where judgement and pretentiousness are to be left at the door.
Located in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley, x&y is at the epicentre of Brisbane's music, art, fashion and cultural scene.
We support local musicians and artists and are committed to providing them with a space where they can showcase their talent to a willing crowd. Live music seven nights a week, graffiti everywhere you look and recycled furniture all adds to the surreal experience that is x&y.
We believe that it is time for a change in the Brisbane bar scene, so come on in and help us be that change.
Forget the X, this place was brimming with Gen-Y when we visited. If you’re not wearing black skinny jeans and you’re over the age of 25 you will feel very, very old. The music is house and the decor industrial, with chicken wire thrown in for that authentic feel. There’s a futuristic-looking bar downstairs, but most of the action is in the beer ...read more

I had a great night here, i especially enjoyed the bar downstairs as the one upstairs tends to get crazy packed! The cocktails were fantastic and they are made in front of you which is cool :) The artwork is very appealing especially to the alternative crowd, all round good fun.
Completely disagree with Carla on this one. Think of this bar as the younger version of Laruche. That is if you go downstairs to the cocktail bar downstairs. Clearly inspired by the milk bar of Clockwork Orange infamy, this is where Kerbside bartenders were mixing it up before there was a Kerbside. It is also one of the few places where you can get a Tanqueray 10 and tonic (with pink grapefruit of course) for $10!
The music is usually of the same style as the more dancy triple J tunes as well as (good) hip hop and sometimes mashups. There is no cover sharge or no dress code. And aquariums in the toilets!
Line can get ridiculous on the weekends so get in early and make this where you start your night.
Eh, this place isn't that great to be honest. No cover charge, but I definitely wouldn't pay to get in. Limited space, music isn't of a certain genre, just random noise. Staff aren't interested in making it a pleasant experience, only fulfilling their job description.
