You there! Are you constantly seeking out the very best Mexican food Sydney has to offer? Then you’ve come to the right list. Let’s get cracking.
North
Chica Bonita
Hidden amongst the twisting alleyways of Manly, Chica Bonita is a bustling bandits’ den of lively vibes, rock ‘n’ roll tunes and some of the nicest margaritas we’ve ever sipped on. The food’s not to be passed up either, and we’d especially recommend giving the versatile and guilt-free ‘Bikram Burrito Salad Bowl’ a try. It’s exactly what it sounds like – a burrito in bowl form, and it comes with beef, fish or pork, as well as various veggie and gluten-free options. Everybody wins! Find out more
“A manly local favourite. Gets very busy so can have wait times for a table but it’s always worth it! Food is always delicious & staff are friendly and helpful!” – Mahhh
South
Frank & Blanco
Frank & Blanco is a trendy, uncomplicated and thoroughly agreeable place for bout of fine Mexican nourishment. You can’t go wrong with the ‘Taco Tasting Trio’ (your choice of three tacos, including spicy pork, vegetarian and chorizo), and you’ll be enthralled by the beautiful wall murals courtesy of local artist Lucas Eggleston. Oh, and make sure you arrive in time for happy hour cocktails from 4-6pm! Find out more

East
El Topo
With its pattered tables, vibrant booths and walls of solid blue, orange, purple and yellow, El Topo is the most colourful place in the Sydney Mexiverse. It’s also awash with cacti, skulls and moustachioed blokes in sombreros, you’ll be pleased to hear, and boasts some of the most authentic tucker in town. The 12-hour slow-cooked Barbacoa de Costilla De Res spicy beef short rib dish is utterly delicious and perfect for sharing. Find out more

West
Flying Fajita Sisters
If you judge a Mexican place by its tequila, then Flying Fajita Sisters is a pretty darn good one. The alluringly lit bar is stacked with imported bottles, and the margarita pitchers are a definite must try. The food is exceptional too, and you can’t say no to a Tomatillo Braised Beef Burrito with a sprinkling of sauce from their legendary hot sauce wall (‘Ultra Death Sauce’ is the way to go, if you ask us). “Really awesome to find a nice sit-down Mexican joint! Loved the decor and atmosphere, I feel like the food is pretty authentic too. Fish tacos were delish.” – lorettes
CBD
Mexican Burrito Cantina
Now this is Mexican! Mighty luchadores adorn one wall, a full mariachi band is splashed across the next, and the rich scent of Central American delicacies mingles with the lyrical voices of the Mexican chefs preparing them. Settle in, pop open a Jarritos, and tuck into a hearty plate of ‘Barbacoa de Borrego’. That’s tender lamb with lime, coriander, guacamole, pico de gallo and tortillas. Delish! Find out more
