Nothing says “I’m a badass” like strolling up to the bar and calling for a scotch on the rocks. Increase your cool factor by heading to some of Sydney’s best whiskey bars!
Palmer & Co.
We’ll begin with a trip back to the swinging, sly-winking splendour of the prohibition age, when boys were men and men were… cowboys? Palmer & Co. is a dark and decadent throwback, brimming with mystery, jazz and delightful whiskey concoctions. We’re rather fond of the ‘Hanky Punk’, a fascinating blend of Jameson, vermouth, Fernet-Branca and dark beer. Find out more
“An experience like no other – take a trip back in time to the roaring 1920’s. Great music, cosy bar and plenty of friendly faces. Cheers to that!” – LWJ_2210
The Wild Rover
We can comfortably assure you that this is the perfect place to spend all your money on whiskey and beer. Bathed in a warm, inviting glow, The Wild Rover stocks an absurd number of whiskeys from all around the world. In keeping with the general Irishness of the place, we’ll suggest the Tullamore Dew, aged for 12 years. Find out more
“Great Irish feel. Cocktails are very inventive. The Pash and Dash pineapple cocktail tasted exactly like a frosty fruit. Highly recommend.” – Anna9003
Grain Bar
Grain Bar treats alcohol like an art form, elevating it far beyond the lowly status of the simple booziness it enjoys in certain other establishments. This is where you go to truly savour your drink; to sip it and swirl it and pick out all the subtle craftsmanship that went into its creation. Single-malt scotch is the order of the day here. The Glendronach, to be precise. Find out more

Stitch Bar
Vintage sewing machines, cool stuff all over the walls and over 50 different types of whiskey ready for you to sample. Yep; it’s Stich Bar! We always feel rather bourbony when we roll down to this beautifully decked-out bar, and can never pass up a glass or two of Four Roses Small Batch. The bar food is also excellent, so don’t forget to give it a try. Find out more
“The decor here is just so nice that I can sit in here all night! It’s a hidden bar filled with old school sewing machines, even the tables have sewing machine pedals on them.” – ShrimpyNoodle
The Baxter Inn
A bit tough to find but well worth the effort, The Baxter Inn boasts a fantastical selection of over 300 different whiskeys. The Talisker 10 Sour is a sure winner but if that’s not your poison, the awesome chaps behind the bar will help you hone in on your perfect poison in no time. Once you begin drinking your way through the menu, we will say that the complimentary pretzels are a godsend. Find out more
